Coello and Associates constructs Wisconsin Trend Home foundation using concrete mix with 50% cement replacement utilizing recycled products WAUKESHA, Wisc. (March 3, 2008) Coello and Associates, a leading poured foundation contractor in Southeastern Wisconsin, constructed the basement for the Wisconsin Trend Home. This environmentally conscious home is being built with features expected to be prevalent in the homes of the future. The home’s strong focus on green building principles starts with its poured concrete foundation. The concrete mix was designed to achieve a strength of 4,000 psi in 28 days while using a 50% cement replacement made with recycled cement-like products known as fly ash and blast furnace slag.
“We are very excited about this concrete mix,” said Mike Coello of Coello and Associates. “It’s not only better for the environment, but it also produces an end product that will be stronger, more dense, and will also exhibit less shrinkage than a standard full-bag cement concrete mixture.” The foundation also utilizes Certainteed’s Form-A-Drain™ system rather than traditional perforated draintile. Form-A-Drain will not only provide the foundation with superior drainage, but it also can be easily adapted to vent radon. The product itself is composed of 92% recycled content. The system is poured into place while forming the basement footings, therefore eliminating the waste of using alternate materials to create footing forms. The Wisconsin Trend Home is located in Waukesha in the Rolling Ridge Subdivision. Upon completion, the home will be open for public viewing during a six week period during late summer. Proceeds of the home’s sale will be utilized to provide La Casa De Esperanza with a $200,000 grant for training low-income workers within the construction industry. Remaining proceeds will be used by the Wisconsin Builders Association Foundation to provide scholarships for students seeking a career in the trades.
